Dear Parishioners,
Thanksgiving is this week. So Happy Thanksgiving to all of you. We really have a lot to be grateful. This year we will have our Ecumenical Thanksgiving Service at Zoar United Church of Christ on Church Rd. The other participants will be the Parishes of St. Joe in the County, St Paul UCC and St. Wendel. The Service is November 25 at 7:00 PM. All are invited to attend. We will also have a Thanksgiving Eve Mass at 7:00 PM on November 26 here at Resurrection. And on Thanksgiving Day, we will have a Thanksgiving Day Mass at 8:00 AM. This gives us a lot of opportunities to give thanks to God on this wonderful Holiday. And then Advent starts.
It will be a busy season so why not get started by thanking God for all our blessings. Here is a prayer that you might use at your Thanksgiving Meal. “Our Father in Heaven, We give thanks for the pleasure of gathering together for this occasion. We give thanks for this food prepared by loving hands. We give thanks for life and the freedom to enjoy it and all other blessings. We pray that those less fortunate than us won't go hungry. We pray for the men and women serving our country that they come home safely. We thank you Lord for all of our many blessings; that we have each other, we have good health, a safe and warm home, and clean clothes to wear. As we partake of this food, we pray for health and strength to carry on and try to live as You would have us. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord, who live and reigns forever and ever. Amen.”
Make sure that you check out the Giving Tree that is set up in the Lobby and please follow the instructions that are found elsewhere in the bulletin.
St. Joseph Parish Vanderburgh County will be helping Fr. Myron Effing (brother of Marilyn Wassmer) with his work in Vladivostok, Russia. They are organizing a 10-12 day mission trip to Vladivostok this summer. There are five parishioners from St. Joseph Parish Vanderburgh County who will be making this mission trip but can include up to 10 people. They want to extend the invitation to our parishioners to join them on this mission trip. Secondly, they ask for your prayers. If anyone is interested in supporting their fund-raising efforts, they would appreciate and accept all of your help. Checks can me made payable to St. Joseph Parish Vanderburgh County memo: Vladivostok mission trip. If you have any questions feel free to contact Sharon Vogler at 963-3273.
Here is another joke for all of you.”The 12 Days of Thanksgiving. On the First Day..... We give thanks for the fresh turkey feast and its hot trimmings. On the Second Day..... We bless the cold turkey sandwiches, slushy cranberry sauce, and hard rolls. On the Third Day..... We praise the turkey pie and vintage mixed veggies. On the Fourth Day..... We thank the pilgrims for not serving bison that first time, or we'd be celebrating Thanksgiving until April. On the Fifth Day..... We gobble up cubed bird casserole and pray for a glimpse of a turkey carcass. On the Sixth Day..... We show gratitude (sort of) to the creative cook who slings cashews at the turkey and calls it Oriental. On the Seventh Day..... We forgive our forefathers and pass the turkey-nugget pizza. On the Eighth Day..... The word ''vegetarian'' keeps popping into our heads. On the Ninth Day..... We check our hair to make sure we're not beginning to sprout feathers. On the Tenth Day..... We hope that the wing meat kabobs catch fire under the broiler. On the Eleventh Day..... We smile over the creamed gizzard because the thigh bones are in sight. On the Twelfth Day..... We apologize for running out of turkey leftovers. And everybody says, "Amen!"
God Bless You, Fr. Phil Kreilein
